Third in the March and Lake series, this time the duo find themselves looking for a professional killer, working as the Memento-Mori Man, and a part of Tobias' past intrudes into his present. Lavinia and Tobias are trying to settle into a weekend party in the country, when in walks Lady Aspasia Gray, frightened former lover of a late colleague of March 's during the late war. The colleague had committed suicide after being exposed as afore-mentioned contract killer, three years before. Another guest is murdered and the dead killer's calling card is found near the body, rattling both Lady Gray and Tobias March. Lavinia is put on guard, and again, the chase is on.A bit slower than her previous books, this still offers a fast-paced read with plenty of surprises, including contact with a fabled assassin, the Memento-Mori man, professional killer with a code of ethics, who undertook commissions only on those who deserved to die. None who met him had lived to tell the tale. Until Lake and March, in the end. This is one of the fun little twists to the story that saves the plot from being dull and banal. Wish I could share more. But - spoilers.
It almost seems as if the author were tired sometimes, but the book is still worthy of a read. Get a cup of your favorite beverage and settle in a comfy chair to enjoy. I loved the twists at the end.
I've seen complaints that blame the book's 'faults' on the story having too much mystery and not enough romance, but I disagree; it may be that what seems to be a slower paced story is due to development of the mystery, and to the authors' fans' expectations of a regency romance writer. This is the book in the Lake and March series that is mostly mystery, alright, but it's a good one. It took me longer to read this one, but I enjoyed every second. I also feel the romance was thoroughly developed in the first two novels, right up the point of proposal, so I don't think there was anywhere else to go, and Ms. Quick, wisely, didn't try to go there.
Give it a chance, read it without expectation. It's worth it.

Late for the Wedding Lavinia Lake and Tobias March Amanda Quick 9780553584868 Books Reviews
Didn't like the ending! ! ! But the story carried well and had some fun in it. Amanda Quick writes such great books. I don't believe I shall read any more of the Lavinia Lake/Tobias March book. All the rest of her books that I have read are just wonderful stories. Hey the boy is supposed to get the girl in the end.
Tales of romance with entertaining plots , a diverse characters are very hard to come by. Amanda Quick's talent, for giving her reader true enjoyment is outstanding, and marvelous to partake thereof, thank you! I have Truly Have A Hard Time putting her books down!
I love Amanda Quick's characters. While it is true that there is a very obvious story formula (as every story follows a similar pattern) I can't help but still love to read them!. The women are often quirky but fun, strong and endearing and the men are dark and brooding and just need a quirky, fun, strong woman in their life. I think it's fun that the hero most often falls instantly and unexplainably in love with the female heroine. It makes the game sweeter and shows a bewildered, sheepish and at a loss of control side to the brooding hero.
Step back in time to Regency London where dazzling balls were in season & plenty of back-alley investigations are made to solve the crime. This is the third & final book with characters Lavinia Lake & Tobias March. It's always best to read them all. Here the action continues as the list of suspects grows, and the investigative team gets a little help from family & close friends. Captivating characters with just the perfect touch of romance. Amanda Quick writes my favorite reads to take me away for a bit.
Quick is always a pleasure, quirky twist here, an unexpected turn there. Characters that are real life understandable, villains that you dislike immediately. Mystery, humanity, humor and good fun.🌻☺
I have enjoyed Amanda Quicks for decades but thought her sci gif ones quirky and amusing. This is a good who Dunnit with a good dose of social suppression and liberation included. Part of me thankful for our ancestors who struggled so we don't have to, but We in turn have different challenges. This was a very good book.
The quality of the formatting of the ebook version is off compared to other ebooks by Quick, Krentz, and Castle. The cover displayed on the carousel is blurred, not crisp. There appears to be no paging in the text that mimics paging of a paper book. The chapter headings are not in a font that distinguishes them from the regular text. A very shoddy job of formatting of this title. I wish the publisher would correct it. Seems unfair to charge the same for this title as the others which are formatted so much better.
Novel - 4 stars (not her best)
Ebook version - 2 stars (quality of formatting is poor)
If the ebook version formatting is fixed, I do hope I will be automatically given an update.
