Griffin Steele is shrewd, intelligent, feared by many men of the ton (most because they owe him money) and is the illegitimate son of the younger brother of the Prince Regent, the Duke of Cumberland. He is selling his gaming clubs and the one brothel he owns, at a huge profit, so he can leave the country, travel and be accountable to no one, save himself. His younger years were not pretty and he has a firm dislike for the ton. He has very definite rules that he lives by, likes order in every aspect of his life and keeps his circle of confidantes to a minimum.Justine Brightmore is smart, strong willed, not easily intimidated, astute and a crack shot. She never “took” on the marriage mart and her red hair has been a trial for her. She is the daughter of a well known spy for the crown and dislikes chaos in her life because of her life while her father was alive. Justine has worked very hard to be invisible and wants to live quietly without having to depend on her family. She has learned when to ask questions and when to be quiet and listen.
Griffin and Justine are thrown together by her godparent, and good friend of his, Dominic Hunter; a spymaster for the crown. They are charged by Dominic to care for a baby that has been unceremoniously dropped off at Griffin’s home. They find an instant dislike of each other and both wonder what Dominic has up his sleeve. The mystery the baby brings with him is wonderfully interlaced with the growing attraction and admiration Griffin and Justine feel. Her reputation is threatened and it adds to the chaos that neither of them likes. The girls from the brothel are charming and add a delightful pinch of humor and some giggles. The way Ms. Kelly ties up the loose ends and brings things in Griffin’s life full circle is heartwarming. Ms. Kelly continues to provide wonderful glimpses into the lives of her Royal by-blows. This is a remarkable series and I have enjoyed each installment.

Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom The Renegade Royals Vanessa Kelly 9781420131246 Books Reviews
A baby left on the doorstep of a brothel, needs a nanny. Enter Justine. An attraction develops between Justine and Griffin the owner of the brothel. Yet, the story about this baby will change many lives with connections to the past. A slow read, but an interesting story with a lot of secrets. A little cliff hanger on an unexpected relationship. I enjoyed the book, but I'm still debating whether to read the other books in the series..
"Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom" is another winner from author Vanessa Kelly. Griffin Steele is a shrewd and savvy business man with a reputation to match. Being the illegitimate son of the Duke of Cumberland has hardened Griffin in ways that no one would understand. No one dares threaten Griffin or those in his employ. When he is forced to take in a abandoned infant by spy master Dominic Hunter, Griffin balks. Dominic has a plan and brings his goddaughter Justine Brightmore to care for the child.
From the moment these two meet, there are sparks flying and not in a good way. Griffin does not welcome strangers into his household and Justine is appalled that she is forced to live next door to Griffin's brothel. This story draws the reader in with intrigue, danger, secrets and a romance that builds slowly throughout the book. Can Griffin learn to trust the prim and proper Justine and can Justine look past Griffin's reputation to find the generous and loving man that he shields from the world? The story is filled with twists and turns that keeps the reader engaged to the final pages. Recommended.
When I started Vanessa Kelly's Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom, I had my concerns. Partly, I had a hard time getting in the first book Secrets for Seducing a Royal Bodyguard. Fortunately, I had nothing to worry. Actually, I dived into the story and fell in love with Griffin Steele and Justine Brightmore.
At the beginning of Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom, we notice Griffin is trying to settle things before he lives England. We all know that plans always change, especially when there is a baby involved. Of course, Griffin contacts his mentor Sir Dominic. Yes, Dominic comes up with a solution that doesn't make Griffin happy. We meet Justine who is task to take care of the baby. Things happen which cause Griffin and Justine to marry.
Overall, I enjoyed Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom. I thought it was a vast improvement from the first book. I was able to dive more into the story and not feel like a struggle to read. I love the chemistry between Justine and Griffin. You have Griffin who is trying to tidy up things before he leaves the country and then he gets stuck with a task of taking care of a baby. He knows he needs to stay away from Justine, but seems to be drawn to her. Honestly, I love how he has no clue why he's drawn to her, because she's not the typical woman he would go after. I love Justine, because she has bluestocking tendency and has no desire to be among society. In that aspect Griffin and Justine fit well together. Granted you don't see any real danger till the end and even that is clear up fairly quickly.
Honestly, I'm glad I took a chance on this book, even with my fears. So, if you are looking for something that's a little different, you might consider reading Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom.

This is my second Vanessa Kelly book and I will not be stopping here! Kelly does an excellent job of describing her characters, their feelings, and their stories. I don't think anyone could not love Griffin! He never runs away from problems but stays and faces them head on. For most of the entire book he was a rock for Justine. I loved that he never resented the circumstances that forced him into marriage but just accepted it. The same was true for Justine. She was very open and honest. I also loved that they didn't try to hide their feelings. Now I can't wait to read Dominic and Chloe's story!
